I always wondered what it meant to be an author. For those who know me, I find immense peace when penning down my thoughts. Then again, a book on art, culture, history, and society is no cakewalk. What began as a college dissertation is now a project I am most proud of.
This book elaborates on women Kathakali and Kalaripayattu practitioners. My decision to explore these ancient art forms stems from my lineage. Who am I? A Keralite, who was raised across different Indian cities, but whose family never ceased to share their love for the state’s cultural heritage. Throughout my life, my aunts and grandmother narrated numerous stories about their tryst with Kathakali. My inherent inclination towards martial arts drove me to explore Kalaripayattu and its elements. It was not long before I made up my mind to study the intricacies entwined in them and the contribution of women in these spaces. Although it required a decade of contemplation, research, and discussions with many experts, the feeling of being published is amazing!
