Madness and the escapade: Nandi Hills

A few of the Nandhi Hills

After having spent a few memorable hours with some of my closest friends, I chose to do the unusual. No sooner had I finished by Saturday morning brunch, I chose to tag along with a local resident of Bengaluru and explore a rather serene yet quite unusual corner of the city’s outskirts.

An hour into the journey and soon all I could see around me were trees and landscapes unlike the rest of Karnataka’s capital city.

Nandi Hills is situated in the Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka. Known for the unique temple architecture cited on the hilltops, the area is also known for the forts constructed during the reign of Tipu Sultan.

If you yearn to trek, breathe some fresh air and step away from the mad yet chaotic traffic jams of Bengaluru, then this is your place to be.

Time taken: One hour (approximately)

Closest airport: Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru

You could also enjoy a lovely yet scenic road trip (especially a bike trip).

Watch out: There are families of monkeys residing on this hilltop. Do not be surprised if they choose to follow you where ever you go if they spot a few goodies in your backpack!
