With the holiday season around the corner, the ‘perfect’ break does remain a distant dream for many.
As for me, I discovered a perfect getaway situated approximately 30 minutes away from the Tripunithra, the cultural capital of Kerala’s Ernakulam district.
The Matsyafed Fish Farm at Poothotta, Ernakulam District, not only allows one to savour the fresh air and serenity of Kerala’s backwaters but also gives an opportunity to learn a few new skills in a most traditional manner.
Visitors can try fishing, rowing and even swimming in the backwaters.
Fear not! You do not need an angler at this Fish Farm. Enjoy fishing using a branch of a tree and a string with tied around a hook.
For those of you who love to pedal your way through the water, pedal boats are bound to bring a smile on your face. However, if you are curious to know more about the traditional rowing technique – this is your chance!
How to get there:
You could board a bus that plies up to Poothotta and then, hire a rickshaw or even walking to the venue.
Cost: Rs. 200 per head for a whole day (It is inclusive of lunch and all activities, except the speedboat ride)
Rs. 50 per head from 3 pm to 6 pm (It is inclusive of all activities, except the speedboat ride)
Children have it easier, with regards to the entry fee.
Timings 10 am – 6 pm.
